Monica Bernardo has always had a passion for dance and has built her career around it. Completing a dance and education degree at the University of New South Wales in 1999, she began teaching dance and physical education in a Sydney high school. Whilst at university, Monica began practicing mat and reformer pilates, enjoying the physical benefits as well as the technical similarities with ballet. She then left Australia and spent eight years overseas, teaching dance and physical education in schools internationally. She discovered her love for barre classes in London and returned to Australia, residing in Melbourne where she continued her pilates and Barre practice. In 2014, Monica returned to Sydney and found it difficult to find a barre class in the Hills. Tired of travelling for an hour to complete a 55 minute workout, Monica decided to complete her barre teacher training and open Barre Essentials. A local barre studio! WHAT EXACTLY IS BARRE?
Barre is a fusion of ballet techniques, pilates and cardio work that combines to give you an all over body workout. Just like the beginning of a ballet class, we use the ballet barre to develop strength and flexibility. We also use a mat, pilates ball and theraband to provide resistance.
The physical benefits of barre are many, including;

Each class is set to upbeat music and classes are fun, social and can be modified for individual needs and fitness levels. You don't need any ballet experience, just a positive attitude and sense of fun.
What started as a dream to create a local barre studio has quickly turned into a reality and become Barre Essentials. Barre Essentials aims to improve your strength, flexibility and fitness while focusing on feeling good about yourself. Being confident, happy and seeing exercise as part of a holistic life is what Barre Essentials is all about!
