I have never done ballet before. Can I do this?
Absolutely. No dance experience is required. Classes are modified to each student's individual needs and whilst it can be high intensity, it is LOW IMPACT, meaning you'll get a great workout without putting stress on your joints. Barre classes suit people of all ages, shapes and sizes, as long as you bring a positive attitude and a willingness to try! A barre workout focuses on small isometric movements so each person can work to their own ability. Always tell me if something doesn't feel right and I will modify the exercise for you. Barre Essentials has adults of all ages and everyone is welcome!
What should I expect in my first class?
Arrive to the studio 10-15 minutes before the class so you can have a chat with me and fill in a medical/waiver form. Wear comfortable clothes such as leggings, pants or tights and a t shirt or exercise top. Shorts are not ideal as we do a lot of work in second (legs apart) and shorts may not be comfortable. Bring a bottle of water with you, and if you have your own mat, feel free to bring it. However, we do have all the equipment you'll need at the studio. You don't need to wear any shoes. Some people prefer to wear grippy socks (the socks with the little grippy circles on the sole) but I prefer bare feet. Whatever you are comfortable with.
When are the classes held?
Classes are held on Wednesday nights at 7.30pm and Saturday mornings at 8am. The studio is located at Unit 10 of 5 Gladstone Road, Castle Hill, 2154.
Lastly, how do I pronounce 'barre'?
This question has been asked so many times so don't feel silly! Its simply pronounced 'bar' (as in... meet me for a drink)!
